In 2020, with funding from the NJ Department of Transportation, the NJ Safe Routes Resource Center at the Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers University developed a survey to gather information on how many crossing guards are working in New Jersey and how they are trained. These survey responses were combined with information gathered from other municipalities to complete an inventory of crossing guards and training for these vulnerable road users.
